Contributing to my learning & learning community

As I advance through the MED program, I will reflect on my learning journey by evaluating my strengths, weaknesses, and contributions. I believe that self-assessment is crucial in all areas of life to gauge growth and development.

 My self-assessment is:

  • Course 5318-97

  • Course 5389-96

My main learning community for 5318 consisted of: Samara Marin, Anna Gonzalez, Mia Fayerweather, and Maria Montemayor.

My main learning community for 5389 consisted of: Samara Marin, Anna Gonzalez, Rebecca Chang, Mia Fayerweather, and Maria Montemayor.

I enriched both my own learning and that of my classmates by actively engaging in all activities. For each course, we formed two team groups to foster discussion and provide feedforward throughout the eight-week sessions. My strengths in these programs included attending and watching all webinars for additional clarification.

I felt like these last 8 weeks I have had to rely on my peer groups more often than I have in previous courses I have taken for 5389. I felt unsure with all of my assignments in this course and had a lot of help & reassurance from my cohort group. They helped look over an assignment and gave me their insight on what I should correct of add. In 5318 I had to reach out to them once again for help with being stakeholders since I was only able to get one person from a different district to agree to give me feedback and do a survey over my course. It was nice to see our group stepping up and helping others like me who were falling short of finding people. I returned the favor with several of our cohorts. I couldn't have made it through these two courses without them.

I actively contributed to various course forums by posting promptly to encourage responses. I consistently checked for replies to my discussion posts, as well as emails, chats, and team pages. I adhered to APA formatting and properly cited references in my work and discussions. My feedback was consistent across both courses, and I reviewed and provided suggestions on classmates’ assignments.

Our groups were supportive and openly discussed any assignment concerns. I completed all readings, watched all videos, met all course deadlines, and engaged with all additional resources, ensuring a thorough understanding for all discussions and assignments.

While recognizing my strengths, I am also conscious of areas where I can improve. Although I have improved in group work instead of trying to do everything on my own, this semester I have been frazzled and a little lost. I have had to rely on my group more than normal this semester. This may have been due to the demands of my new job while balancing schoolwork and personal life. However, I acknowledge this is no excuse, and I intend to be more proactive in offering help, even if it hasn't been directly requested. Additionally, I did not form two groups as I had in the past since Samara had already created the groups for our last 4 classes. Therefore, the next 8 weeks I will continue to be in her group.
